The Kimpton Aertson Hotel creates a unique and tailored experience for visitors, making them feel at home and connected to Nashville's rich history and culture. The design draws inspiration from the creative spirit of the city and nearby Vanderbilt University with its historical influence on the city.
The design experience starts the moment guests step through the door, with the entry meant to evoke the sense of walking into a residential living room. Custom crafted art and design pieces are integrated throughout such as a large piece of stone flooring etched by a waterjet cutter with a map of Nashville made by a local artisan. The reception desk is a commissioned art piece made of dyed rope with an ombré effect. Comfortable and welcoming, the multi-functional lobby lounge has a fireplace with a custom art stone wall and encourages guests to relax, socialize, or work.
As the interior designer for the 180-key boutique hotel, Gensler aimed to create an atmosphere that spoke to Kimpton's philosophy as a place where guests feel like they are in a comfortable and stylish home, rather than a generic hotel. Focusing on the carefully curated mix of textures, materials, and space that conveys the rustic and eclectic charm of Nashville, the hotel incorporates and harkens back to the history of the city and one of its major contributors Cornelius Vanderbilt
Art is a central focus of the design, with space intentionally created for the installation of curated pieces that fit into the hotel's overall energy. A natural palette with blue tones is paired with metal accents, natural woods, and other materials with a sense of hand-craftedness.
Guests can enjoy amenities including a fitness facility and roof-top pool outfitted with fire pits, cabanas, and bar area. There is also a ballroom with pre-function areas and conference center. These elements come together to achieve an ambiance that makes guests feel comfortable and relaxed in a fresh and authentic space in Midtown Nashville.
